Costume & Prop Guidelines

Anime Night Mart is a place to cosplay, express yourself, meet new people, and have fun. These guidelines are designed to keep that experience safe and comfortable for everyone attending the event.

Keep it creative. Keep it obviously cosplay.

Cosplay costumes and props are welcome at Anime Night Mart, but attendees should be able to immediately recognize them as fictional, decorative, or intended for cosplay.

If an item could reasonably be mistaken for real tactical equipment or a real weapon, please leave it at home.

Anime Night Mart staff and venue security may inspect or restrict any costume, prop, accessory, or item when necessary for event safety.

General Costume & Prop Rules

Costumes should remain event-appropriate, props must stay under your control, and anything that creates a safety concern may be refused by staff or venue security.

What Is Allowed

Fantasy weapons, oversized props, foam or lightweight cosplay items, staffs, shields, armor, and clearly fictional prop guns are generally welcome when they cannot reasonably be mistaken for real weapons.

What Is Not Allowed

Tactical equipment, realistic weapons, knives, ammunition, realistic-looking firearms, military-style accessories, and similar items may not be worn or brought into Anime Night Mart.

The easiest rule to remember is simple: cosplay should look like cosplay. Equipment that looks real may be refused.

Clearly Fictional Cosplay Items

  • Foam, plastic, cardboard, or lightweight fantasy weapons
  • Oversized anime and video game props
  • Magic staffs, wands, shields, and fantasy armor
  • Brightly colored or obviously fictional sci-fi prop weapons
  • Clearly fake toy guns such as orange toy blasters
  • Squirt guns and colorful toy water guns
  • Other props that cannot reasonably be mistaken for a real weapon

Realistic or Tactical Equipment

  • Tactical vests and plate carriers
  • Chest rigs and military-style load-bearing equipment
  • Tactical helmets and military-style goggles
  • Real firearms
  • Realistic-looking replica firearms or prop guns
  • Knives, blades, or realistic weapon props
  • Real or fake ammunition
  • Explosives or replica explosives
  • Holsters, tactical pouches, or similar tactical accessories

Important: Tactical Gear Is Not Permitted

Following attendee safety concerns, Anime Night Mart does not permit tactical vests, plate carriers, chest rigs, military-style load-bearing equipment, tactical helmets, tactical pouches, or similar equipment at our events.

This policy applies even when the equipment is being worn as part of a cosplay.

Guests wearing prohibited tactical gear may be asked to remove the equipment, return it to their vehicle, or leave the event.

Anime Night Mart staff and venue security have final discretion regarding whether an item is appropriate for entry.

Common Questions

Can I bring a prop gun?

Only when it is clearly fictional or obviously a toy and cannot reasonably be mistaken for a real firearm. Bright orange toy blasters, colorful sci-fi props, and squirt guns are examples of items that may be acceptable.

What if my realistic-looking gun is fake?

It is still not permitted. The concern is whether the item could reasonably be mistaken for a real weapon, not whether it actually functions.

Can I wear a tactical vest for cosplay?

No. Tactical vests, plate carriers, chest rigs, and similar military-style equipment are not permitted, including when used as cosplay.

Are fantasy swords allowed?

Lightweight foam, plastic, cardboard, and similar fantasy cosplay props are generally acceptable when they are clearly fictional and used responsibly.

Can staff still refuse something that is not listed here?

Yes. It is impossible to list every possible costume or prop. Anime Night Mart staff and venue security may restrict any item that creates a safety concern or violates venue policies.

What happens if I arrive with something that is prohibited?

You may be asked to remove the item, return it to your vehicle, or leave the event before entering or remaining inside the event area.
